Praia premieres Parkalgar track
PARKALGAR HONDA’S Miguel Praia had the honour of being the first rider to take to the newly laid tarmac at the Parkalgar complex in Portugal earlier this week. The 4 km Parkalgar circuit, located close to Portimao, is setting out to be one of the most advanced race tracks in the world. It hopes to become a Mecca for race fans of all disciplines with karting facilities, a technology park, a hotel complex and a sports centre. The track is due to be completed in time to host the final round of the World Supersport Championship on November 2nd. Building work is now at an advanced stage with the first layer of asphalt already in place, and the grand stands are also starting to take shape. Praia has been involved with the project since its inception and he was thrilled to be the first person to ride the circuit. Miguel said: “It was a big emotion for me, obviously I didn’t lap anywhere close to the speeds we expect because the track is still dirty but it gave me a good feeling for the circuit. It will be a great challenge once it is finished and it will not be an easy track for riders. The public viewing is also going to be very good as they will see a lot of the circuit.” Both Parkalgar Honda riders will be back in action for the ninth round of the World Supersport Championship which takes place on the 1st-3rd August at Brands Hatch in the UK.
